I'm sitting here on the floor "folding laundry" and watching Pali use an entire roll of tape on "A birthday present for Gracie" (whose birthday isn't for another nine months) and I just can't get the scripture out of my head that I read this morning.
"14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen." Ephesians 3:14-21
My entire life has been filled with people proclaiming that "We serve a limitless God!" and I know this to be completely true. Jesus said, " “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” " (Matthew 19:26). Luke 1:37 says, " For nothing will be impossible with God.” Zophar ponders the limits of God in the book of Job (Job 11:7-10) saying, "Its measure is longer than the earth and broader than the sea." So if this is all true then why don't we see things happen when we proclaim them? Why do prayers seem to go unanswered and miracles unperformed?
In Acts 3, Peter heals a man with what seems to be a passing thought. He just looks at the man begging for money to survive and basically tells him 'I have no money but I do have the power of God. Be healed.' (My interpretation of the actual scripture) and the man is healed. Just like that. How?
Since reading Ephesians 3 earlier today, it has just been circulating in my brain. Verse 20 is something we all know and like to pull out and quote during a powerful worship song. You know the moment; the worship team is singing about healing or about nothing being impossible and the worship leader shouts through a perspiring brow, "HE IS ABLE TO DO EXCEEDING, ABUNDANTLY ABOVE ALL THAT WE ASK OR THINK!!" (And the crowd goes wild) But for some reason we only quote the first half of it. People always leave out, "...according to the power at work within us." The power has to be at work within us.
I'm going to steal a line from The Santa Clause because it's just all too fitting. Seeing isn't believing. Believing is seeing. If you're waiting to see something to make you believe, you may be waiting for quite some time because if the power isn't working withing you, nothing will happen. But if you believe, you will see. (Faith people! Faith!)
The apostles performed works with what seems to us like a passing thought. It seems like it was so easy for them. The power of God is within you when you receive His amazing gift of the Holy Ghost but if you have to work up to His presence you probably won't see works like those of the Apostles. These things can only be accomplished by living every single day in the Holy of Holies. All we see is the action. We don't always see the dedication put into a life of prayer and sacrifice.
So yes, God does have one limit. The one limit of God is you. Strive to go deeper in the spirit. Dig deeper in God. Seek the Holy of Holies every single day. When something is put away it can be forgotten about. I want the presence of God not just to dwell within me but I want it to dwell among me. Everywhere that I go, everything that I do, I want his presence to dwell among me. Take the limits off God and see what He does through you.
Working on it,
