“We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:8-10, 16-18
We’re after eternity. It may seem like we’re surrounded by the enemy but the scripture calls it a ‘light momentary affliction’ because we can’t see eternity. We can’t see where God is taking us. We can only see the transient, the things that don’t last long and these are the things we tend to base our lives on.
We think we are in despair when in reality we just need to turn our eyes to the things unseen. Why? Why am I experiencing this? Why do I feel forsaken? Why do I feel attacked, alienated and alone? Why do I feel so broken? We carry the weight of the death of Christ and often let that weight tear us down when it's actually meant to lift us up.
Let the life of Christ be your encouragement. Look to His incredible works, kind deeds, and unexplained kindness. Look to His frustrations and see what you find. Weep for the lost, offer kindness for hatred, and stand when stones come at you from every side. Lift your hands when you feel persecuted. Show up when you feel buried in confusion. Praise as you feel burdens thrust on your shoulders.
You may be struck down but you’re not destroyed. This life is heavy but that weight is preparation for the Glory of God. Don’t forget to seek after your renewal today, stand and march on; eternity is waiting.
Looking up,
